What Grok Is (and Isn't)
Grok is xAI's AI assistant — Elon Musk's AI company — available as its own standalone app and bundled into X (formerly Twitter). Knowing it matters for a practical reason: it's built into a platform a huge number of people already use daily, and its data practices and content behavior have real, documented differences from the other tools in this library worth knowing before you rely on it for anything.

The tiers (genuinely more overlapping than most tools, so read carefully)
Standalone Grok app:
- Free — a limited number of prompts on a rolling window, no access to the most current model, a smaller context window.
- SuperGrok (~$30/month) — higher usage limits, the current full model, DeepSearch, and an extended-reasoning "Big Brain" mode.
- SuperGrok Heavy (~$300/month) — adds a multi-agent mode, aimed at the heaviest power users.
Through X (if you're already an X user):
- X Premium (~$8/month) — more Grok queries than Free, but without access to the current full model or DeepSearch.
- X Premium+ (~$40/month) — bundles current-model Grok access with an ad-free X experience.
Why this matters for you: if you're already paying for X Premium+, you may already have solid Grok access without needing a separate SuperGrok subscription — check what you already have before adding another subscription.
What Grok is not
- It's not the same content-moderation posture as the other tools in this library — worth knowing plainly, covered fully in the security lesson, not glossed over.
- It's not automatically private about your X activity — its relationship with X's own data practices is genuinely different from a standalone AI company's product, also covered in the security lesson.
- It's not a tool to skip learning just because of the above — it's used by a large number of people, has real, current-events-aware capabilities via X's real-time data, and knowing your way around it is still worth having in your toolkit, with eyes open.

If you already have an X account, check whether you're on X Premium or X Premium+ before assuming you need a separate SuperGrok subscription.
