Perplexity Enterprise: Enterprise Pro vs. Enterprise Max, and How to Get Started

Perplexity Enterprise is the org-wide tier — centralized billing, SSO, and a data-handling agreement that actually says something in writing. Unlike Claude or ChatGPT, Perplexity has no separate "Team" tier in between individual Pro and Enterprise: if you're deploying Perplexity for more than one person at a company, this is the tier, full stop. It also isn't one tier — it's two, Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max, at meaningfully different price points, and the gap between them is not what you'd probably guess.

What Enterprise actually costs, and what the Pro/Max split really buys you:

• Enterprise Pro — $34/month per seat, billed annually. "Built for teams that need accurate answers, fast, with the security controls IT approves." Includes access to Perplexity Computer, 8,500 bonus credits, 500 monthly Computer credits per seat, guaranteed no training on your data, access to the latest AI models, search across the web/files/apps, and premium source citations (PitchBook, Statista, and more).
• Enterprise Max — $271/month per seat, billed annually — roughly 8x Enterprise Pro's price. "For the hardest problems. Unlimited queries, the most advanced models, no compromises." Everything in Enterprise Pro, plus 40,000 bonus credits, 15,000 monthly Computer credits per seat (30x Enterprise Pro's allotment), the most advanced AI reasoning models, deep investigations at scale, work with massive datasets and files, and comparing responses across multiple AI models. In Perplexity's own words, from their pricing FAQ: "Enterprise Max is built for the hardest problems at scale. It includes everything in Enterprise Pro plus higher limits relative to Enterprise Pro on Deep Research, asset generation, and file uploads. It also raises Computer credits from 500 to 15,000 per month."
• A single organization can mix both: per Perplexity's FAQ, "An organization can include both Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max users. Admins set each member's tier under Settings, then Members." — useful for putting Max on your heaviest users and Pro everywhere else instead of an all-or-nothing org decision.

The Pro/Max split is about usage and model access — not about governance. Read this before assuming the pricier tier is the more locked-down one.

It's easy to assume Enterprise Max, being ~8x the price, is also the tier with the compliance-grade controls. It isn't. Both Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max include SSO standard, at no extra cost. But neither tier includes SCIM provisioning, audit logs, role-based access control, or configurable data retention by default — Perplexity gates all four behind a separate, custom-priced contract on top of whichever Enterprise tier you're already paying for. Their own pricing page states it plainly: "For organizations that need enterprise-grade controls like SCIM, role-based access control, audit logs, and other scaled security features, contact us to discuss custom pricing."

In practice: paying more to move from Enterprise Pro to Enterprise Max buys you usage headroom and model access (more Computer credits, higher Deep Research/asset-generation/file-upload limits, the most advanced reasoning models, and a much higher Comet Agent usage multiplier). It does not buy you SCIM, an audit log, or RBAC. If your actual requirement is a SOC 2 or HIPAA program that depends on those specific controls, that's a separate sales conversation regardless of which Enterprise sub-tier you're on — don't budget "upgrade to Max" as the fix for a governance requirement.

Pros:

• Guaranteed no training on your data, standard on both Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max — the thing consumer Pro/Max don't give you without manually opting out (see the Perplexity Pro setup guide).
• SSO included standard on both sub-tiers, not an upsell — genuinely available at the $34/seat/month entry point, not only at custom-contract pricing.
• SOC 2 Type II certified, GDPR and HIPAA compliant — stated on Perplexity's own enterprise security page, not just marketing copy on the pricing page.
• A real self-serve entry point exists. Both Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max have a "Get started" self-serve signup flow, alongside "Contact sales" — you're not required to go through a sales call just to see what the product looks like, unlike some competitors' Enterprise tiers.
• Mixed-tier orgs are explicitly supported — you don't have to put your whole company on the same sub-tier to get started.

Cons:

• The governance features you'd expect to be "just there" at Enterprise pricing aren't. SCIM, audit logs, role-based access control, and configurable data retention all require a further custom contract on top of either sub-tier — see above. If a real compliance requirement hinges on these, get that priced out before you commit to Pro vs. Max.
• An 8x price gap between the two sub-tiers ($34 vs. $271/seat/month) for what is fundamentally a usage-limits and model-access difference, not a different security posture. It's easy to over-buy Max assuming it buys more lockdown when it mostly buys more headroom.
• Only annual per-seat billing is shown on the pricing page. No monthly self-serve rate was visible during this pass — budget for an annual commitment unless a sales conversation surfaces a different option.
• Enterprise's data-training and retention guarantees don't cancel out Comet's distinct risk profile. If your rollout includes Comet's agentic browsing, that carries its own prompt-injection-style risk category independent of the data-training question — see the "Security & Privacy with Perplexity" lesson in the field guide course before assuming Enterprise buys that risk away entirely.

How to get started:

1. Go to perplexity.ai/enterprise, or perplexity.ai/hub/pricing and switch to the Enterprise tab, to compare Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max side by side.
2. Choose Get started under either tier for the self-serve org-creation flow, or Contact sales to talk to Perplexity first — both paths are offered on the same page.
3. The self-serve flow signs in the same way as an individual account — Google, Apple, email, or your company's SSO if it's already configured — then walks you through creating the organization.
4. Inside the org, admins assign each member's tier (Enterprise Pro or Enterprise Max) individually under Settings → Members, rather than locking the whole org to one sub-tier.
5. If your actual requirement includes SCIM, audit logs, role-based access control, or configurable data retention, raise it in the same sales conversation — it's priced and provisioned separately from the per-seat Enterprise Pro/Max subscription, on either sub-tier.

What this guide doesn't cover yet: the actual post-signup admin console — SSO configuration, the Members tier-assignment screen, and the separate governance-contract provisioning flow — because those require a real, paid, logged-in org session to capture accurately, and the self-serve flow wasn't taken to completion (no real signup or purchase was made to produce this guide). This page will be updated with that once that access exists, rather than guessing at what those screens look like.
